The iconic wooden boathouse, the rowing boats, the mirror-like water reflecting the peaks behind, it’s the kind of scene that looks almost too beautiful to be real. And yet, here it is.
What to know before you go: Access to the lake for photography sessions must be booked in advance through the official Lago di Braies website. Shoots happen early, around 6–7am in summer, 9am in spring, to catch the golden morning light and avoid the tourist crowds that descend later in the day.
Plan to stay nearby the night before; it makes the early start much more manageable. You can book the full boathouse and boats exclusively, or share the session with another couple to reduce costs. Either way, it’s worth every bit of the effort.
2. Cadini di Misurina Viewpoint — Raw and Epic
For something wilder and more dramatic, the Cadini di Misurina viewpoint delivers in a big way. You reach it with a 30-minute walk from Rifugio Auronzo, which you access by car, paying a €30 toll, and what you find at the top is a jaw-dropping panorama of jagged Dolomite spires rising out of the alpine landscape.

Not every location in the Dolomites requires a predawn alarm, a toll road, or a challenging hike. Passo Giau is proof that accessible can still mean absolutely stunning.
Located about 30 minutes from Cortina d’Ampezzo, this high mountain pass sits at 2,236m and offers sweeping 360° views of the surrounding peaks. You drive straight to it, no cable car, no toll, no trail. The open meadows, the winding road, the mountain backdrop: it all comes together beautifully, especially in the soft light of late afternoon or golden hour.
